Aluvial

[2025]

Aluvial is an integral design project that addresses the lack of awareness regarding immigrant origins within Argentine society. Each migratory wave left a unique mark that shaped the country's identity: from inhabited spaces to everyday language.

These contributions coexist, merge, and transform over time, forming a living web that remains latent and continues to be inhabited and shaped daily. Through a digital platform and spatial interventions, Aluvial seeks to reveal these immigrant influences that, while often overlooked, remain present and define the local identity.

Alluvial Society: Words, spaces, landmarks, and objects brought by successive waves of migration to Argentina intertwine and coexist, forming a living cultural web that shapes our identity. Aluvial was born to make it visible.

Spaces of immigrant origin exist throughout the entire city. We come across them all the time, yet we are not always aware of the history behind them.

[Spaces]

A historic moment is a recorded inflection point—an event or object that redefines our present. Many of these have their origins in immigrant roots; without them, our society would not be the same.

[Events]

Aluvial is an interactive platform designed to identify, reveal, and inform the immigrant legacy in the city of Buenos Aires and our everyday lives. Through an interactive timeline and dedicated sections, it visualizes spaces, objects, events, and words, allowing users to learn, save these contributions to their personal archive, and actively contribute to the collective identity of our culture.

Every word in a society has a history, an origin. They are traces of who we were that unfold in the present. Within them, and through their expressions, lives the identity of a people.

[Words]

Aluvial proposes reconnecting with our history and understanding ourselves as a society shaped by immigrants. Each one contributed, and together, they shaped what we are today.

We developed an editorial and signage system that enables these contributions to be preserved and experienced in an analog format. The system ranges from brochures, catalogs, and logbooks to urban signage that actively intervenes in and engages with the city’s public space.
